It has been a very cold, but not so wet winter so far. The Fable Mountain has had more than a bit of snow on top. It even snowed up on the high lying vineyards, albeit briefly. We have never seen this before and I think the vines definitely have all their cold units already. The new 2014 reds are also enjoying the cold, after finishing malolactic they are now settling down for their 2 year stay in barrel.
In the vineyards pruning is well under way, we have finished the old vines and are halfway through the new blocks.
The animals also love this time of year (in between the rain!) as they get to enjoy the lush cover crops in the vineyards. Lambing season has gone well, there are only a few proverbial late lambs that still need to arrive.
In the new vineyards, we are still busy with the trellis system. All the anchors are in and wired up and we are now walking out the wires. This is going to take some walking as we have over 350km of wire to put out.
We have had few awesome visits from the Cape Town restaurant trade. The Myoga crew, in particular were lots of fun. Nothing like getting #fabled on a Monday afternoon.
